Laser Cutting Machine Protective Lens
Laser Cutting Machine Protective Lens is an accessory used to protect key optical components (such as laser head and lens) in laser cutting equipment from damage by dust, slag and other debris. The lens is usually made of high-quality optical glass or other transparent and high-temperature resistant materials that can withstand the heat of the laser. It is usually installed at the front end of the laser cutting head to play a filtering and protective role.

Advantages of Laser Cutting Machine Protective Lens
High light transmittance (99.99%)
This means that the lens has almost no light loss, which can ensure the efficient transmission of the laser beam and improve cutting efficiency and accuracy.
High-quality material (quartz)
Quartz has good high temperature resistance, chemical stability and light transmittance, can withstand high laser energy and effectively protect other optical components from damage.
Accurate dimensional tolerance
The diameter and thickness tolerances are both ±0.1 mm, which ensures that the size of the lens is very precise, which can perfectly match the laser cutting machine, reduce installation errors and improve working stability.
Multiple size ranges
The diameter of the lens ranges from 18 mm to 138 mm, and the thickness ranges from 1 mm to 9 mm. It can be adapted to different models of laser cutting machines and has good compatibility.
Good surface quality (40/20)
The surface finish meets high standards (40/20), which can effectively reduce the scattering of the laser and ensure the accuracy of beam transmission and cutting effect.
Low clearance rate (<80%)
The low clearance rate of the lens surface means that the lens surface is easy to clean, impurities are not easy to accumulate, optical performance is maintained, and service life is extended.
High parallelism (<1 cm)
Excellent parallelism ensures precise alignment of the optical system, preventing errors during cutting and improving cutting quality.
Steps for selecting protective lens of laser cutting machine
When selecting protective lenses for your laser cutting machine, consider the following three steps:
Outer Dimensions (Main Parameters: Diameter and Thickness)
Ensure that the dimensions match your machine's requirements precisely. Any deviations, especially in diameter and thickness, can compromise the seal, allowing gas and dust to enter the optical path, potentially damaging the focusing lens and affecting product quality.
Material
Choose the appropriate material based on your laser power requirements and cost considerations. The most commonly used materials are quartz (fused silica) and K9 (BK7) optical glass, which come in various grades to meet specific needs.
Coatings
The type of coating on the protective lens depends on the application environment. Different coating technologies and parameters can be used to enhance performance. Factors to consider include pressure resistance, light transmission, and lens manufacturing processes.
For high-Power laser cutting, fused silica (JGS1) is a preferred material due to its excellent thermal stability, laser resistance, and high damage threshold. However, it is more expensive than K9 glass.
Coatings on protective lenses are available in blue or yellow. The choice depends on the specific application:
Blue Coating: Offers stable light transmission across a broad spectrum. Suitable for general-purpose use.
Yellow Coating: Provides higher light transmission at the laser wavelength. Ideal for high-power applications where maximizing laser energy is critical.
Things to prepare
Dust-free cloth, anhydrous alcohol with a concentration of more than 98%, dust-free cloth cotton swabs, masking paper, new protective lens, hexagonal wrench, protective lens locking tool.
Replacement steps
Wipe
Moisten the dust-free cloth with alcohol (close the lid of the alcohol bottle in time to avoid accidentally knocking over), and gently wipe around the protective lens with the dust-free cloth. The purpose of this process is to prevent dust from entering the cavity during disassembly.
Remove the lens
Use a hex wrench to remove the hex screws, then gently pull out the protective lens insert, and seal the cavity with masking paper to prevent dust from entering. Insert the protective lens locking tool into the hole on the back of the protective lens card, rotate counterclockwise to remove the protective lens, and then insert the block to pour the lens onto a dust-free cloth.
Clean
Gently wipe the inside of the protective lens insert with a lint-free cloth face to clean it.
Replace the lens
Take out the new protective lens, tear off the protective paper on one side, and then gently cover the protective lens insert on the protective lens, turn it over, and then tear off the protective paper on the other side of the lens, and install the pressing sheet and the locking ring in turn. Use the protective lens locking tool to lock the insert clockwise.
Installation
Tear off the textured paper, gently insert the protective lens insert into the cavity, and tighten the hexagonal screws.
Maintenance of Laser Cutting Machine Protective Lens
Gentle Handling and Proper Cleaning
Proper handling and cleaning techniques are crucial to protect the protective lens from damage and maintain its integrity. Always use a soft, lint-free cloth and a mild cleaning solution specifically designed for laser lenses when cleaning the lens. Avoid using abrasive materials or cleaning solutions that could scratch or damage the lens. With gentle handling and proper cleaning, your protective lens will be in top condition to perform its task.
Timely Replacement
Regularly replacing lenses is essential to ensure optimal cutting performance and prevent damage to the cutting head. The replacement schedule may vary depending on usage frequency, intensity, and the type of materials being cut. Therefore, it’s necessary to monitor the condition of the lens regularly and replace it as needed to achieve optimal cutting performance and durability.
Consistent Maintenance is Key
Regular maintenance of lenses is critical to keep your laser cutting machine running smoothly, prevent unnecessary downtime, and avoid costly repairs or replacements. Lack of proper maintenance can lead to reduced cutting quality, increased operating costs, and the possibility of damaging the lens due to debris, contaminants, or other factors that affect cutting performance. Consistent maintenance, on the other hand, will ensure your lenses perform at their best and maintain optimal cutting quality.
